Like most workplaces, the restaurant industry is also adopting automation. Now different types of robots are being used to greet customers and serve dishes. One such robot, named Peanut, is ‘employed’ at U&Me Hot Pot, a Chinese restaurant in Orlando, US.

A video of Peanut is going viral on Instagram. The video shows Peanut asking a customer to move out of his way. In its high-pitched and childlike voice, the robot says, “Don’t block my way. I have to work, otherwise I’ll be fired”.

This video was posted on Instagram by an AI-centric account named @uncovering_ai. This video has gathered over 3.3 lakh likes. Commenting on it, an Instagram user wrote, “Robot just tryna make a living he doesn’t want to be fired ”. Another user joked, “I thought humans are being fired because of robots. Even robots don’t have job security.”

In January 2022, the organisers of the Winter Olympics used robots as a substitution for the service staff in a bid to reduce human interaction. A video shared by Reuters shows how a robot delivers food to guests with ease and perfection. The robot arrives in front of the door and the guest types a pincode and then the robot reveals the packed food. After the guest takes the food item, the robot closes and moves back.
