Businesses in today’s digital era need to build impactful strategies, driven by three strong constructs like availability, affordability and accessibility. Aided by its technological capabilities, e-commerce is democratizing commerce in India by empowering the retail landscape in India. E-commerce has enabled accessibility and provided a pleasant shopping experience for consumers, with a myriad of options to choose from. All this has been made possible with the capabilities and infrastructure of a strong and efficient supply chain in the system, to deliver packages seamlessly. The e-commerce sector and its supply chain also has created millions of direct and indirect employment opportunities across the country.
Supply chain has always been conceived as a male dominated workspace, but the industry is evolving to accommodate people from all walks of life and to become more inclusive of its outlook. It is one of the best sectors to break the stereotypes around gender roles associated with travel, delivering shipments, packaging and lifting goods.
As a propeller of diversity and inclusion, Flipkart aims to foster the logistics industry to create a welcoming and opportune environment for women, transgenders, persons with disabilities, and all through its various initiatives.

With several initiatives encouraging women’s existence every day, Flipkart’s mission to provide employment opportunities have gone beyond that to help underprivileged women from remote locations to fulfill their dreams with no signs of slowing down.
Until recently, the supply chain industry has long been dominated by men, with women making up only a small percentage of its workforce. But the brand recognized the importance of diversity, culture, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, and efforts to empower women in the supply chain are gaining momentum.
The brand’s vision is to support those in need and help build a promising future for them. One such example is the Flipkart grocery warehouse in Guwahati, Assam, which is 100% women driven. Women along with Flipkart are gradually making their way in the freight forwarding and the supply chain industry.
Inspiring stories of these women like Barnali Devi, who belonged to a family that makes their livelihood from weaving clothes via traditional weaving loom, and her father is a vegetable vendor and mother is a housewife, is now working as a Senior Assistant at Flipkart. Pompi Medhi, working as an Executive with Flipkart, lost her father at the age of 12 and had support of her mother while growing up. They joined Flipkart to support their families and the company made sure to create a safe environment for them where they could learn and fulfill their dreams.
The company offers a biased free and secure space to these women, to help them grow and feel that they are no less than boys. These women are the examples of hard work and dedication that can help one achieve and fulfill their dreams. There are many such untold stories, which are a result of Flipkart’s initiatives.
