Speaking to the press after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York, Tesla chief executive and Twitter owner Elon Musk said that he was confident that his automotive company will enter the Indian market soon, adding that he is planning to visit the country next year.

“I am confident that Tesla will be in India and will do so as soon as humanly possible,” Musk told reporters.

“We do not want to jump the gun on an announcement but I think it is quite likely that it will be a significant investment in our relationship with India,” he said. “I would like to thank the prime minister for his support and hopefully we will be able to announce something in the not so distant future.”

Asked about ex-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s recent allegations on threats to Twitter by the Indian government, Musk asserted that the micro-blogging platform has no choice but the adhere to the local regime.

“The best we can do is to follow the laws in any given country,” he said. There are different rules and regulations for different forms of governments, Musk continued, saying “we will do our best to provide the freest speech that is possible under the law.”

This comes after Dorsey had said that during his tenure as Twitter CEO, the social platform had received “many requests” from the Indian government to block accounts covering farmers’ protests and those critical of the government.

In a separate statement, Musk said that he was a fan of Modi, and that “India has more promise than any large country in the world. He (PM Modi) really cares about India because he is pursuing us to make significant investment in India.” India is great for solar energy investment, the American magnate said, describing his talks with the prime minister as excellent.
